Indestructible
Claire is teenager who used to be a student and cheerleader in Odessa, Texas, under the care of her adoptive parents Sandra and Noah Bennet, otherwise known as "the man with the horn-rimmed glasses". Though she loves her adoptive parents, she feels like getting to know who her biological parents are might shed some light on who is. She is like many teenagers today, wanting nothing more than acceptance and understanding as she undergoes a series of emotional and physical changes in her life. However, what she soon begins to realize that the changes occurring within her are very different from her peers’ experiences. After a few accidental, and many intentional, incidents, Claire, with the help of her “unpopular” friend Zack, realizes that her innate ability to heal wounds in just a matter of moments. Zach films several attempts in which attempts to injure or kill herself unsuccessfully, walking away unscathed and rarely even showing pain.
“I walked through fire and I didn’t get burned.”
After one such attempt, Claire and Zach are making their way home when they witness the burning wreckage of a derailed train. Claire sees a man who cannot escape, so she has Zach record her as she saves the man’s life. Reluctant that she may be labeled an outcast, or worse, she and Zach keep this a secret from everyone, even when a firefighter asks which cheerleader committed the heroic act. Claire’s former friend and rival Jackie takes credit to for the event, much to the dismay of Claire. Zach would inform her later that day that the tapes that they made are missing from his bookbag.
