The year is 2008, gas prices are rising worldwide, and there is a clear need to end the struggle to keep our environment clean. We are in need of a change. One man is doing his part to step up to the challenge by leading a team of engineers to produce a new brand of vehicles, that are not only fuel efficient, but energy efficient, comfortable and safe.
In 2006 Steve Fambro began a new company by the name of Aptera. What started in his garage has grown to a company of 15 employees which have worked with him to complete the pre-manufacturing phase of development for what is known as the Aptera Typ-1. An operating prototype of the vehicle was able to achieve 230 miles per gallon upon testing. The Aptera Typ-1 has since been re-designed and prepared into a production ready vehicle.
The three wheeled, two-seated vehicle is currently available for reservations in the state of California. While production of the Typ-1 will begin in late 2008 and it's success is yet to be determined, I believe Steve and his team to be heroes of our current time. It's not easy to take a stand and do something outside of the box. The Aptera team has the potential to supply future drivers with a new brand of vehicle, that may very well be a solution to many problems!
