How great might it be to live as a rockstar? To be recognized around the world as the lead singer of a renowned rock band and have influence among legions of fans everywhere must be simply amazing. But what if you used this prestige and influence to actually do something good for the world? I think that Bono, of the rock band U2, is a living example of this idea. The sheer amount of work and energy that he has put into bringing attention to the struggles of the African continent is astounding, as he has met with world leaders to motivate them to take action. In addition to this, Bono has co-founded several organizations including DATA, Product RED, the ONE Campaign, and Edun, which are all socially conscious efforts, most of these which deal with Africa or encouraging foreign aid for nations in need. It’s because of the travelling the extra mile that people like Bono are recognized for their greatness. While being good at something is something of merit, being a good person is worth much more.
